Grief Counseling

Loss comes in many forms.

Some losses are easily identifiable as major life events, causing tidal waves throughout one’s daily life.

  • Death of a family member.

  • Natural Disaster.

  • Divorce.

  • Job loss.

Other losses take their toll more silently, weighing on your life in the background and aching in places no one else sees.

  • Losing the life trajectory you had envisioned.

  • The end of a valued friendship.

  • Unwanted singleness.

  • Infertility.

  • Alienation from a religious community.

  • Cross-cultural living, acculturative stress, and the loss of familiarity and predictability.

  • Living with a chronic illness or living as a caregiver.

It can be difficult to find words for the varieties of pain we experience. Each type of loss has its own qualities, its own trajectory, its own cost. As a grief counselor, my role is to help you find language for your experience. I can help orient you to the grief process and distinguish normal grief patterns from traumatic and complex grief. I can provide a steady, listening ear. I can collaborate with you to explore what internal resources give you endurance, identify the values that you want to guide you, and find meaning in your story over time.

Please don’t carry your grief alone. It’s welcome in my office.
